German musical archive
The musical is a central genre of popular music and theatre culture. Since 1945, it has been part of the repertoire of both public and private theatre and has been nudged by the success of musicals such as "Cats" (1981) to become a mass-effective form of entertainment that is not only theatrically experienced and received but also media-based (television, video, sound recordings and Internet).

The collection of Dr. Wolfgang Jansen is one of the most important private collections in this area in the Federal Republic of Germany and is at our disposal. In 2010, it formed the basis and starting point of the German Musical Archive, which has been growing ever since. The collection includes posters, programmes books, merchandise, performance material and specialist literature.
We have summarised the diverse research possibilities within our collections on our own Research Page.
