Research
The research work in the Center for Popular Culture and Music is dedicated to the following aims:
- interdisciplinary cooperation of disciplines dealing with popular culture and music,
- examination of this topic from the past to the present as well as access to various historical, cultural, media and socio-scientific approaches,
- questioning and the abolition of the judgemental distinction between high musical culture and popular culture in the reflection and theorisation of the culture and popular culture concepts as well as
development of theoretical approaches and empirical methods to understand music in a comprehensive and broad understanding as an integral part of popular cultures.
For a hundred years, the German Folk Song Archive and the ZPKM (Center for Popular Culture and Music since 2014) has uninterruptedly been documenting and exploring the "Musik der Vielen" (Music of the Many).
