Publications

Since its foundation (1914 as Deutsches Volksliedarchiv) The Center for Popular Culture and Music sees itself as an interdisciplinary research institute that presents the results of its scientific work to the public in various forms, starting with the Balladen Edition from 1935 to 1996.

• Songlexikon. Encyclopedia of Songs.
   

Among the most recent print publications of the Institute are:

• the Yearbook of the Center for Popular Culture and Music "Lied und populäre Kultur / Song and Popular Culture"
• the series of publications "Populäre Kultur und Musik" (since 2010) aswell as

• the series of publications "Volksliedstudien" (since 2001).

Relevant in the history of science is the "Balladen-Edition" of the Deutsche Volksliedarchiv (German folk song archive), which was published between 1935 and 1996 under the title "Deutsche Volkslieder mit ihren Melodien" (German folk songs with melodies). The ten volumes are a reflection of the philological-cultural-historical dimension of German and international folk song research in the twentieth century.
